Dry Mouth Denture Adhesive

Patients suffering from xerostomia (dry mouth due to lack of saliva) often have great difficulty wearing dentures.  Without saliva to lubricate the surfaces between the denture and the gum, the denture seal will be poor and the denture base will  be abrasive to the gums.  With a poor seal, the dentures will move around more during function.  The movement and abrasion accentuate the development of sore spots.

Some adhesive products like the one shown are designed for patients with dry mouth and dentures.  These products are designed to retain the moist lubrication needed for good retention and comfortable wear.

Additionally, you should consider keeping a glass or bottle of water close by to sip on.  Synthetic saliva substitutes are available, but they are not very popular with patients due to their taste.
